The Botanic Grove Reserve Masterplan involved community engagement in two stages. Stage 1 occurred in 2019 and feedback received included:
Feedback received and considered in 2019 from local residents, school students, users of The ARC and other stakeholders included:
ensuring no further loss of mature trees
car parking and traffic management concerns
potential noise impacts
aesthetics and environmental concerns
On 17 March 2020, Council received the Community Engagement Outcomes Report from Stage 1 and resolved to:
Endorse Option 2 as its preferred option for the development at Botanic Grove Reserve and request that Staff investigate the following changes:
Scaling back the development to a more modest size that is likely to be supported by the Community and doesn’t require removal of any Reserve trees or green space
Inclusion of a toilet facility specifically for Reserve users
Improving pedestrian access (including better access from the eastern side of The ARC) and safety features for children and people of all abilities using the playground
Select most popular play and fitness space facilities, which align to Community feedback whilst still maintaining The ARC fitness requirements
Reassessment of car parking to minimise tree and green space removal (no option was clearly supported by the Community).
Council has revised the initial concept design and is now seeking community feedback on the draft design and changes implemented
