Council is undertaking a staged upgrade of historic Brookside Cellars, at 17 Moore Street Tranmere, as it transforms to become a Community Arts Centre. Council has endorsed the following vision for the Centre:

Brookside Cellars Community Arts Centre is a place where Artists from all genres can gather to create, make, collaborate and celebrate.

Through this vision, the Centre:

  • supports independent Artists and local Community Arts groups.
  • welcomes both established and emerging Artists of all mediums
  • is a place where Culture is celebrated
  • is an accessible and affordable space
  • is a welcoming and friendly space
  • is a shared space

To fully service the vision of Brookside Cellars, Council has acknowledged the need for a major refurbishment to the building of which plans and costings have already been investigated. These upgrades will provide council with a multipurpose, accessible and well equipped facility when completed. Minor upgrades are already underway including roofing repairs, installation of new windows and heating and cooling.

In October 2022 we welcomed Campbelltown ArtHouse Inc as our first community arts group to call Brookside Cellars home.

The building is made up of three clearly defined areas:

  • The Main Hall area/Gallery Space/Performance/Event
  • The workshop area
  • The down stairs Cellar/Artist Studio space

The Main Hall

When fully refurbished, this large space will be available for the arts community to produce events, performances, exhibitions and more.

Workshop Area/ Gallery

This space was recently upgraded with improved lighting for exhibitions, interior painting, electrical and communications works. Council welcomes Campbelltown ArtHouse as our first community arts group hirer of this space. Campbelltown ArtHouse will be presenting an exhibition and workshop program here.

Artist Studio/ Event Space

This character-filled space is currently used for storage by a range of local community groups and for pop-up events. With upgrades, it is envisaged that this space will provide artist studio work spaces available for hire and future arts and culture pop-up events.

Watch this Space!

Council understands that investing in the Arts is important for Communities and having a dedicated space to support and grow artists and have a place for people to experience and enjoy the arts is really important. Brookside Cellars Community Arts Centre is unique in its heritage character, appeal and location along Third Creek.

Council is interested in hearing from local artists, art workers and community groups who are interesting in being involved in the reimagining of Brookside Cellars as a Community Art Centre. History of the Site

Brookside Cellars started life as a winery and distillery, and then became stables for a trotting stud. Later the Cellars became storage for the Tourist Bureau before being used by a range of community groups including Tranmere Sea Scouts, Kensington Ballet School, Gospel Presbyterian Church, Canary Club SA, Gums Landcare, and more.
