FAQs
Why is it necessary for the club to have new premises rather than doing a renovation?
The location of the building will shift from its current location to incorporate the public toilet and provide greater open space, something that cannot be achieved unless it is built new. The building is being replaced in line with Council’s Infrastructure Asset Management Plans and was identified by Council as a high priority project for a new building. The project will leverage grant funding and further funds that have been adopted in Council's Long Term Financial Plan.
Will the new premises be bigger than the existing club house?
The new premises is at concept stage only. It is slightly larger, however incorporates the public toilet currently located separate from the existing building footprint.
Would the new building be used the same way (ie leased to Rostrevor Tennis Club) or will it be available for hire (ie a change in use by the tennis club)?
The Rostrevor Tennis Club will continue to lease the building premises and continue their tennis operations at Jenkins Avenue Reserve. Currently, the Club is only able to sub-let the premises with Council approval and this approach would continue after the new premises is built. There is no change envisaged for the Club’s hours of use.
Who is paying for the redevelopment and how much will it cost?
The project was adopted in August 2024 in Council's Long Term Financial Plan for a total cost of $1.5M subject to 50% grant funding, meaning Council's contribution would be $750,000.
How will the other facilities on the site be managed during the construction phase? Eg. Will the tennis courts, park and playground still be available for use during the construction?
The tennis club have been closely consulted throughout the preliminary design stages of the project. The tennis courts, park and playground will all be functional and accessible throughout the construction.
