Project Update Summary (December 2021)
In December 2020 and January 2021 the Community were engaged to determine support for a playground upgrade and what sorts of playground features they would like. 40 Community members engaged in this consultation and showed support for a playground upgrade. Popular playground features included:
Half-size basketball court
communal/ group swings
climbing wall.
better connection to the Shopping Centre.
Since the consultation, Council staff have been in contact with the new owners of Newton Village Shopping Centre and Newton Plaza about enhancing access into the reserve from their sites. The owners are also looking to redevelop their sites and are interested in a better interface with the reserve. These conversations are continuing and are still preliminary in nature.
On 7 December 2021 Council moved to receive the Padova Court/ Monaro Crescent Reserve Playground Community Engagement Outcomes and note that Staff are collaborating with shopping centre owners as part of the Concept Plan process, prior to preparing a Concept Plan for Council’s consideration in 2022. Padova Court Playground resides in Monaro Crescent Reserve to the rear of the Newton Village Shopping Centre. The shaded playground is surrounded by lots of open grassed areas for running around. Padova Court Playground has a good quality shade structure and playground accommodating young children. Council would like to improve the connection between the Newton Shopping Centre and the Padova Court Playground.
