Weekly FOGO collection trial continues

Council has decided to continue the weekly FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) collection in the original trial area.

The success of the trial collection is thanks to the residents and businesses in the trial area continuing to separate their waste, putting food scraps in the green-lid FOGO bin and sending less to landfill. Together we are making a positive step toward sustainable waste management in Campbelltown.

Across our city, on average only 53% of kerbside waste is sorted into recycling and composting – diverting it from ending up in landfill. The trial area has now achieved diversion rate of 65% - getting us closer towards the State Government’s 2030 target of 70% kerbside diversion from landfill.

Additionally, this kerbside collection service has shown to suit most of our Community, have positive benefits for the environment and reduce costs in waste.

By continuing the weekly FOGO collection trial in the initial trial area we can improve our understanding of collection logistics and the cost for this service as a whole. This will inform the direction of the kerbside waste service Council-wide and Council will be required to make further decisions about this in the future.

Thanks to the trial area community for their continued support and participation in this trial.
