Community Engagement Outcomes

A broad consultation process was undertaken in February and March 2022 seeking comments on the Draft Climate Solutions Policy. 15 responses were received which were generally in support of the proposed Policy whilst also suggesting some minor changes. These changes were supported by the Climate Solutions Advisory Committee and subsequently included in the Draft Policy to be considered by Council.

After considering all the feedback received and changes made, Council adopted the Climate Solutions Policy on 3 May 2022.

See the Community Engagement Outcomes report for more information.

Project Details

In November 2019, Council declared a Climate Emergency and set about a program to establish priorities for action and governance arrangements including a documents framework.

See Our Climate Journey with links to Council's Climate Solutions Policy, Strategy and Action Plan at the end of the page.

The Climate Solutions Policy sets out Council’s stance on tackling Climate Change and covers its approach to target setting and implementation. In particular, it outlines:

  • That the approach to target setting will be evidence-based and tailored to local circumstances and needs
  • That targets will be reviewed as new information becomes available
  • That Council's priorities will be on:
    • reducing green house gas emissions,
    • updating our policy suite to include climate solutions factors,
    • promoting behavioural change, and
    • partnering with other Government and Non-Government Organisations to collaborate and advocate for further action and changes.
