Project Update Summary (November 2021)

In July and August 2021 Council asked the Community what sort of minor park upgrades they would like to see at Denis Morrissey Park.

The most popular new park features consultation participants would like were:

  • additional seating, similar to an existing heritage style
  • additional picnic tables
  • BBQ/s
  • increased native vegetation

Based on the Community engagement outcomes, Council Staff submitted a grant application to the Department for Infrastructure and Transport 2021-2022 Open Space Grant Program. The grant application sought funding for the Fourth Creek Morialta Parri Trail upgrade along with the most popular park features suggested in the consultation. The grant requires a co-contribution from Council, which can be met from the allocated funding for the Fourth Creek Morialta Parri Trail in the 2021/ 2022 Budget.

Council staff will continue to investigate grant opportunities for these improvements.

The Community Engagement Outcomes can be viewed from page 52 of the Council Agenda here.

Thank you to everyone for Connecting with Campbelltown and providing you feedback and ideas.

Background

As part of the 2021/2022 Annual Business Plan & Budget Council has committed to upgrading the section of Fourth Creek Trail which crosses Denis Morrissey Park, between Montacute Road and St Bernards Road. This upgrade is the result of extensive consultation and planning and will commence in coming months.

We have also received feedback from residents indicating that there is a desire for some park improvements which would enhance the experience of local residents and increase usage of the park. The Fourth Creek Trail upgrade may present an opportunity to incorporate some additional park improvements as part of the same construction period, in an efficient and effective manner. As such, we asked the Community for your preference regarding the types of improvements you would like to see.

Fourth Creek Morialta Parri Trail Upgrade

The Campbelltown Fourth Creek Morialta Parri Trail, which connects Morialta Conservation Park through to the River Torrens Linear Park Trail, is an iconic and pleasant local trail. Sections of the trail have been upgraded in 2020/2021, supported by grants from the Department of Infrastructure and Transport.

A 2021/2022 upgrade is planned and includes:

  • Construction of a boardwalk on the park border with Montacute Road, increasing accessibility into the park and visibility from Montacute Road.
  • Additional lighting and signage
  • Safety fencing
