Project Update Summary (December 2021)

During November 2021 Council asked for Community Feedback on its Draft Climate Solutions Strategy.

Key feedback we received included:

  • Desire to strengthen some of the emissions targets
  • Community place importance on green space, vegetation and canopy cover
  • The Community would like Council to role model best practice

Council have reviewed the strategy based on Community feedback and presented it to the Climate Solutions Committee on 15 December 2021. The Committee endorsed the revised Strategy and on 21 December 2021 Council also endorsed it. You can view the revised strategy and Community Engagement Outcomes report in the Council Agenda here from page 165.

Background

Climate resilient means to us the ability to cope and recover quickly from climate-related challenges. Council is committed to ensure its Community, ecosystem and lifestyle will remain climate resilient, regardless of challenges to come. In November 2019, Council formally declared a Climate Emergency and committed to take effective action against climate change. This Draft Strategy sets out key focus areas in Council's response to current and future challenges presented by climate change.

The Strategy will be supported by a separate Action Plan, which is currently under development.

Under each goal are a range of focus areas and targets, which Council is committed to achieve in partnership with the Community.
