Background
Foxfield Oval Hall located on Maryvale Road, Athelstone forms part of Foxfield Oval Reserve.
In addition to the Hall, the Reserve offers a play space, public tennis courts, an oval, separate change rooms, public toilets, the Athelstone Scout Hall and picnic and BBQ facilities, as well as walking trails linked to Fifth Creek, Wadmore Park/Pulyonna Wirra and Black Hill Conservation Park. Some off-street parking is also available at the site.
Foxfield Oval Hall is available for hire and is regularly used for birthdays, quiz nights, conferences, and meetings. It has been the home of Athelstone Table Tennis Club for more than 60 years and is used on an ongoing basis by Athelstone Football Club, Athelstone Cricket Club and a private boxing gym. The Hall also supports events held at the Reserve throughout the year including Tour Down Under, Car Shows, school sports days and the Black Hill Challenge.
In March 2022 Council endorsed the development of a Masterplan for Foxfield Oval Reserve. The community within the immediate area was consulted for ways of enhancing the area. This feedback, which included suggested improvements to the oval, playground, courts and Foxfield Oval Hall, was incorporated into a draft Masterplan presented to Council on 17 October 2023.
What's being proposed?
While a Masterplan was drafted for the entire Foxfield Oval Reserve, Council has decided to only progress the upgrade of the Hall at this time. It has endorsed the three building options identified in the Masterplan for improving Foxfield Oval Hall for the purposes of community consultation.
The Three Building Options
Three building options are proposed for the upgrade of the Hall, each of which addresses issues identified in earlier feedback from the community, including:
- a need for internal access to toilets
- the opportunity to enlarge the Hall floor space and improve the usability of the space (acoustics, wall colour, kitchen function)
- requests to increase the storage spaces within the Hall footprint (for all users)
- a need to improve external lighting
We are seeking feedback on the following three options:
Building Option 1: Alter the existing building and upgrade the existing toilet and kitchen facilities
Building Option 2: Partial demolition of the existing building and provide new toilet and kitchen facilities
Building Option 3: Demolition of the existing Hall building and toilets, and construction of a new Hall including toilets.
Click HERE to view images and floorplans of each option as well as details of the existing Hall layout.
The key features of each option are summarised below.
*Current storage is approximately 33m2 with some 25m2 of this currently being used, plus an external shipping container at the far side of the oval for additional sports club storage.
No tree removal is proposed for Building Options 1 and 2. However, Building Option 3 would likely require removal of one large tree near the existing BBQ shelter next to Foxfield Oval Hall.
